Position summary

The Communications Manager develops and implements comprehensive communication strategies, manages teams, creates high-quality content, oversees digital marketing and social media, builds media relations, engages stakeholders, and ensures consistent branding to enhance organizational visibility, advocacy, and impact.

Key responsibilities

1. Strategy

  • Develop, update, and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with organizational goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication initiatives and refine strategies accordingly.
  • Align communication efforts with fundraising, advocacy, and programmatic priorities.

2. Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the communications team, fostering collaboration and innovation.
  • Develop growth plans and provide continuous feedback to team members.
  • Conduct regular check-ins against KPIs and work plans.
  • Lead annual performance appraisals, including goal setting and evaluations.
  • Hold regular one-on-one meetings with program and functional leads.

3. Content Creation

  • Develop compelling narratives that highlight organizational impact.
  • Oversee high-quality content development for reports, press releases, blogs, newsletters, and social media.
  • Supervise design and production of communication materials (brochures, videos, infographics).
  • Ensure consistency in branding and messaging across all channels.

4. Digital Marketing & Social Media

  • Manage the organization’s digital presence, including website, social media, and email campaigns.
  • Develop and execute digital marketing strategies to increase engagement and reach.
  • Monitor analytics and optimize performance based on insights.

5. Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Draft and disseminate press releases, media advisories, and op-eds.
  • Act as spokesperson when required.

6. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment of messaging and initiatives.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, Journalism, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 4–5 years of relevant experience in communications, preferably within an NGO or non-profit environment.
  • Proven experience in leading teams and managing multi-channel communication campaigns.

Skills:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of digital marketing tools and platforms.
  • Ability to build and maintain media and stakeholder relationships.
  • Crisis management and conflict resolution skills.
