Position summary

LAS is seeking a high-impact Public Affairs & Communications Officer who can operate at the intersection of strategy, storytelling, and influence. This role requires a versatile communications professional who brings together the instincts of a PR strategist, the credibility of a media liaison, the agility of a digital communicator, and the vision of an institutional storyteller. The ideal candidate possesses a nuanced understanding of the justice sector, demonstrates sound judgment in navigating government and stakeholder relationships, and excels at translating complex legal and policy frameworks into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with media, partners, and the public.

Key responsibilities

  1. Government Partnership Visibility
    1. Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic communications plan for LAS’s partnerships with the Government stakeholders.
    2. Draft high-quality press releases, media advisories, and statements for joint programmes, MoU signings, policy milestones, and launches
    3. Prepare briefing notes, talking points, speeches, and media kits for senior leadership and government stakeholders i.e. (Law Department, SHRC, Home Department etc).
    4. Build and maintain strong working relationships with key government stakeholders
    5. Establish and maintain strong coordination with the Information Department of the Government of Sindh to ensure all government-funded project work of LAS is prominently published, promoted, and made viral on official government social media channels and government websites.
    6. Liaise with designated focal persons in the Information Department of the Government of Sindh to co-create content, press notes, and success stories related to government-funded programmes, ensuring credit and visibility for the Government of Sindh in all published materials.
    7. Maintain a government-facing visibility calendar, tracking publication dates, press appearances, digital posts, and official acknowledgments related to government-funded projects on a monthly basis.
    8. Facilitate joint press conferences, statement releases, and government-endorsed communications that amplify the visibility of the Government of Sindh’s justice and legal aid agenda.
    9. Arranging meeting with Government stockholder for LAS and CWP management.
  1. Media Relations & Publicity
    1. Build, update, and actively manage a comprehensive media contact database; print, digital, and broadcast i.e. Dawn, Geo, ARY, Sindh TV, Express, The News etc
    2. Proactively pitch stories and secure positive editorial coverage in leading national and regional media
    3. Manage day-to-day media inquiries and serve as the primary point of contact for journalists
    4. Place op-eds, features, and thought leadership pieces authored by LAS leadership
    5. Track and analyze media coverage and prepare monthly clipping reports with reach and sentiment analysis
  1. Social Media Management
    1. Manage and grow organization’s official social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook)
    2. Develop monthly content calendars aligned with programmatic milestones, advocacy campaigns, and key events
    3. Create engaging visual and written content including graphics, reels, carousels, and short videos
    4. Monitor social media performance, engagement metrics, and audience insights to refine strategy
    5. Develop human-interest stories and case studies highlighting Organization’s impact
  1. Events & Campaign Communications
    1. Lead communications support for LAS events, roundtables, launches, trainings, and high-level convenings
    2. Coordinate photography, videography, and post-event documentation and dissemination
    3. Ensure consistent brand voice and visual identity across all external communications
    4. Support the planning and execution of advocacy and awareness campaigns
  1. Internal Coordination & Content Support
    1. Work closely with program teams to gather information and success stories
    2. Support the development of annual reports, donor communications, newsletters, and IEC materials
    3. Ensure all communications are accurate, ethical, and aligned with Organization’s safeguarding and confidentiality standards
  1. Government of Sindh – Information Department Coordination
    1. Serve as the primary liaison between LAS and the Information Department of the Government of Sindh, building a strong, sustained institutional relationship to maximise visibility of government-funded legal aid work.
    2. Develop and execute a monthly publication plan in coordination with the Information Department to ensure government-funded LAS projects are regularly featured in major national and regional newspapers (e.g. Dawn, Express, The News, Kawish, Awami Awaz).
    3. Coordinate with the Information Department to ensure all LAS government-funded project milestones, successes, launches, and impact stories are published and made viral on official Government of Sindh social media accounts, portals, and government websites.
    4. Prepare and submit monthly visibility reports to LAS leadership documenting all Government of Sindh Information Department publications, digital reach, and media placements related to government-funded LAS programmes.
    5. Work with the Information Department to co-brand all published content with the Government of Sindh seal/logo to strengthen public recognition of the Government’s role in supporting access to justice and legal aid.
    6. Proactively identify and pitch positive impact narratives from LAS’s government-funded projects to the Information Department for inclusion in official government communication campaigns, press briefings, and public-awareness drives.
    7. Support organisation of joint government-LAS press events, media briefings, and digital campaigns that spotlight the Government of Sindh’s commitment to justice, rule of law, and the welfare of underserved communities.

 

  1. Ministerial Engagement, Video Recording & Reporting
    1. Arrange and facilitate formal meetings between LAS senior leadership and relevant Ministers (including but not limited to the Minister for Law, Home, Social Welfare, and Human Rights) for the purpose of recording short video messages, endorsements, and statements related to LAS’s government-funded projects and programmes.
    2. Coordinate the production of short, high-quality video messages from Ministers highlighting the Government of Sindh’s commitment to legal aid, justice reform, and the impact of government-funded LAS projects; ensure these videos are published on social media, government websites, and embedded in annual and biannual reports.
    3. Solicit and record written and video foreword messages from Ministers and senior government officials for inclusion in LAS annual and biannual reports, ensuring all approvals, scripts, and logistics are managed professionally and in a timely manner.
    4. Prepare project success highlight reels, short documentary clips, and impact testimonials from government-funded programmes; share these with Ministers and senior officials for review, endorsement, and wider distribution through official government channels.
    5. Lead the communications component of LAS annual and biannual report production of Government funded project, including sourcing Ministerial forewords, project success stories, data highlights, case studies, and visual content that collectively demonstrate the Government of Sindh’s impact through LAS programmes.
    6. Maintain a dedicated ministerial engagement log tracking all meetings, video recordings, approvals, and published materials involving Ministers and senior government officials, ensuring accountability and continuity of government relations.
    7. Coordinate with the videography team and the Information Department to professionally film, edit, and archive all Ministerial video messages and project success recordings, ensuring content quality meets broadcast and publication standards.
    8. Distribute ministerial video messages and project success content across LAS social media platforms, government channels, and partner networks, maximising reach and reinforcing the Government of Sindh’s leadership in advancing access to justice.

 

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Social Sciences, or Law (Master’s degree will be an advantage)

Experience: 3–5 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or media relations, preferably in the development, justice, or governance sector

Skills: Strategic communications planning; government liaison; media relations & pitching; content development & storytelling; social media management & analytics; event communications; press release & op-ed writing; brand positioning

Knowledge: Excellent writing and editing skills in English, Urdu, and Sindhi; proven ability to translate complex legal and policy issues into compelling, accessible narratives; strong existing media contacts; proficiency in Canva or similar design tools; basic vide
